Custom Kicks

Custom Kicks by Kim Smits

Product Description
Customizing is hot. Everything can be customized: from pimped cars to retro furniture. This major trend is especially popular in footwear. Customizing your own shoes is a way of stepping out of the crowd, of showing your personality. Just about every sneaker brand has found a way to put street art into their products; rain boots have never been more hip; and there are even customize festivals and exhibitions.

By inviting 150 artists and illustrators to show/create customized shoes the book will appeal not only to sneaker freaks, fashion fetishists, and trend watchers, but also to the graphic design and art audience. The main focus is on the artwork but the text examines the trend and asks: How did it start? What materials do the artists use? There are also tips and tricks on how to create your very own unique shoes.

Me in My Bag

I got this book a while ago but forgot about it until recently. ‘Me in My Bag’ by Yi Ying Wang features 100 different people and exposes fully the contents of their bags… it’s pretty interesting to look at occasionally and makes an excellent gift too.  OH and its presented in an interesting way too …

In this week’s issue of HK magazine, they did something similar where they also found a few people and got them to expose what was in their bag … although it was still pretty typical.

Inspired by Nature?

This artist made use of the the idea of ‘tree movement’ over time to create this interesting drawing … This Willow Tree was equipped by fifty pens and left to follow the natural shape and sway of the wind to create this interesting and abstract image!

My Love, My Baby

So I’m finally back in Hong Kong … it’s been a week now and I realized that I haven’t done much besides taking out my wisdom teeth, buying a whole load of books and hanging out with my loved ones.  I feel like I’ve finally rested enough and am ready to start my SUMMER 08!!!!!!!

Here’s what made me motivated:

A little about him …

His name is Rocky, my parents got him for me (and my brother) when I was ten.  We were having some problems then so I took care of my little brother while he cooked lunch for the two of us and I’d take him to the library in Central during the weekends or if he was good I’d bring him all the way to Stanley to watch my parents work.  One day we were SO good that my parents rewarded us by giving us our first and only pet (fishes don’t count they die too easily) … someone had saved a batch of puppies in the sewers and were giving them out … there were 8 of them all identical but I chose this one because he stuck his head in my shoe and walked into the wall because he couldn’t see.

Nicknames!

Broccoli (sounds like Rocky)
Rocky Baby
Rock Rock Baby ♥

Likes:

Tennis Balls, Empty water bottles, kitchen/ toilet rolls, Sleeping, Playing Hide and Seek, Being stepped on, and Food – Any type of Meat (Sausages), Grapes, FIgs, Sweet Potato, Candy, Milk, Seafood, Bread and pretty much everything really …

Dislikes:

Alarms, Cockroaches, Water, Showering, Being ignored, Foods – All types of vegetables, Apples, Avocados and tomatoes (just like the rest of my family)

Weird Habits:

- He sits in front of you (if not on you) and starts drooling uncontrollably when he wants to eat what you have in your hands
- When alarm bells start ringing he will hide in the bathtub
- When he gets really excited his whole body shakes
- He walks into glass doors

I loveeeeeee my Rock Rock BABYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY especially since he stayed and watched me all night yesterday since he knew that I wasn’t feeling well … ♥

Why are Wisdom Teeth called Wisdom Teeth???

Yesterday I went to the dentist to take out my wisdom teeth … it was pretty horrible watching them use huge tools and feeling how hard he pushed and pulled. I cannot get over the fact that I have three stitches in my gums … and I thought that I could live my life free of stitches but at least I still don’t have any broken bones!

<EDIT> Never mind … ahh my dreams of having no broken bones and stitches have been shattered … I just found out that I had a greenstick fracture in my lower leg when I was 3 years old. Ah well I have plenty of other dreams to keep me in my fantasy world.
